In recent days, our country has come together in mourning for a Colorado family. Chris Watts, a 33-year-old husband and father of two, first gained national attention when he pleaded for the safe return of his family — his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts, and their two daughters under the age of 5 — in a media interview (below).

After first gaining sympathy in the public eye, he arguably became the most hated man in America several days later. Chris openly confessed to murdering his 34-year-old pregnant wife and their children: Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3. Their bodies were discovered on Chris’ work property — Shanann’s in a shallow grave and his daughters submerged in an on-site oil tank.

However, he later changed his story. An affidavit revealed that Chris claimed to kill his wife after he witnessed her strangling their girls on the baby monitor.

Chris was immediately taken into custody and faced a number of felonies. His latest court appearance was on Tuesday, August 21st when the judge officially announced his formal charges: three counts of first-degree murder of his wife and kids, two counts of first-degree murder of persons under age 12 while being in a position of trust, one count of unlawfully terminating a pregnancy, and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body.

Although it seems like the husband and soon-to-be father of three faced a hefty amount of charges, public outrage erupted across the nation after his charges were revealed. Colorado residents saw one major problem with his charges — he should have received a fourth murder charge.

More than 55,000 people have signed a petition insisting Chris be charged with a fourth count of capital murder for his unborn child. The petition has gained support from people in different cities across the country.

“Chris Watts has admitted to killing his wife, Shanann Watts. Shanann Watts was pregnant with a baby. A baby boy that they had planned to call Niko. When she was murdered, so was Baby Niko,” the organizer of the petition stated.

“Colorado currently does not have a law that would charge Chris Watts in the murder of Unborn Baby Boy Niko,” the organizer added. “Please join our fight to have this changed and this monster charged with a fourth count of capital murder.”

As of Wednesday, August 22nd, Chris has not yet entered a plea. It is possible that a plea will not be entered for several more months.

Please continue to pray for those mourning the death of Shanann and her daughters. In breaking news, a beloved kid’s show actor sadly passed away from cancer.
