On Friday, July 6th, the Duke of Cambridge appeared alongside his grandmother — Queen Elizabeth — and several other members of the Royal family at the Thistle Service at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh.

The event is reportedly held once every two years to induct new members of the Order of the Thistle chivalry associated with Scotland. According to the Daily Mail, the Queen hosted a reception at the Signet Library followed by a luncheon at Hollyrood Palace.

At the public event, Prince William, 35, and the Queen, 92, wore outrageous matching hats. The oversized black hats were topped with a large, white feather. The hats appeared to have a brooch located on the side.

The two also matched in traditional, velvet robes that had white, ribbon bows on the shoulders. Their outfits for the special ceremony were completed with long neck pieces.

Royals fans noticed one unusual thing about the photos of Prince William and the Queen — the Duke had a very unsatisfying look on his face. Fans went wild and were quick to make humorous comments about his facial expression.
