It’s Prince Louis’ Christening Day! Fans Freak Out Over the Celebratory Cake

Monday, July 9th marks a very special day for the Royal family. It’s Prince Louis’ christening day!

The youngest child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be christened at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby. For the ceremony, the young Prince will wear a replica of the Royal Christening Robe, according to the palace’s website.

Prince William’s brother and sister-in-law — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — will be in attendance, as well as his father and stepmother — Prince Charles and Camilla Parker. Others attending include members from Kate Middleton’s family and Prince Louis’ six godparents and their spouses, reported Independent.

The godparents will be Mr. Nicholas van Cutsem (a close friend of Prince William), Mr. Guy Pelly (another friend of Prince William who is also a godfather of Prince George), Mr. Harry Aubrey-Fletcher (old friend of Prince William), The Lady Laura Meade (distant cousin of Camilla Parker and the wife of James Meade — godfather of Princess Charlotte), Mrs. Robert Carter (close friend of Duchess Kate), and Miss Lucy Middleton (Duchess Kate’s cousin).

Among the christening details that were released Monday morning, Royals fans were most excited about the celebratory cake to be served following the service. The christening cake is a tier from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s 2011 wedding cake.

The extravagant dessert, which originally consisted of eight tiers, was designed by Fiona Cairns. The cream and white-iced cake was made from 17 individual fruit cakes and included roughly 900 icing flowers of variety for decoration.

Fans were freaking out over the 7-year-old cake being served at the christening ceremony. However, it is not uncommon for the bride and groom to save their wedding cake over time. Even in American culture, many couples choose to freeze their leftover wedding cake and eat a slice for their anniversaries.
