Prince William, Kate Middleton Are Moving Out of Kensington Palace

“KateAnd William are moving to Windsor to be closer to [Queen Elizabeth II] and Carole [Middleton], who is always on hand to look after the kids when the Cambridges need to travel back and forth from London,” an insider tells UsThe Duke of Cambridge, 39; and his wife, 40.

The couple also considered their children — Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4 — when making the decision.

“Charlotte can go horse riding in the open air and George can play football on extensive grounds,” the source explains. “Louis loves being close to his great-grandma, and he’s going to take tennis lessons this summer. They’re starting over there, and George, Charlotte and Louis are really excited about going to a new school and being in the countryside in the fresh air where there’s lots of space for them to play freely.”

William and Kate, who were married in April 2011, moved into Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace in 2013. The residence was formerly occupied by the queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, who died in 2002.

Their new home will be close to Windsor Castle, where the queen, now 96, has lived since the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The home is approximately an hour outside London. The monarch had previously spent many weekends at the home. But she decided to make it her permanent home earlier this year.

Elizabeth lived at Buckingham Palace in London during her 70-year reign with Prince Philip, her husband who died in April 2021.

The Cambridge children will be able to spend more time with their grandma, in addition to being closer to their great grandmother. Middleton, 67, has previously opened up about how much she enjoys playing outdoors with her grandkids, whom she’s been teaching to garden.

“If I’m doing planting with my grandchildren, I like to have it all laid out at ‘activity stations’ with their own little trowel and pot so they can get started immediately,” she told the U.K.’s Saga magazine in April 2021. “It’s important for children to grow up appreciating nature, and part of that is allowing them to get a bit muddy.”
