A former priest and public school teacher was found shot to death in his Las Vegas, Nevada home earlier this month. The infamous priest, 70-year-old John Capparelli, had a bad reputation of sexually abusing dozens of young boys throughout his career in a trusted teaching position.
According to the New York Times, his death is being investigated as a homicide given “suspicious circumstances.” Local police reportedly went to his house to conduct a welfare check, but he was discovered dead on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound in his neck.
A suspect has not been identified as of Wednesday, March 13th. However, the authorities working on his case are in the process of following up on leads.
Capparelli worked in ministry from 1980 until he was removed in 1992. While in priesthood, Capparelli was accused of groping teen boys, taking photos of the boys wrestling in swimsuits by his command, and even rape.
After being forced to exit ministry, he was hired as a public school teacher before moving to Nevada. Capparelli also allegedly operated a porn website involving minors.
He was the subject of several lawsuits accusing him of sexual abuse. Unfortunately, Capparelli was never formally charged or punished regarding any of the accusations.
