During the 2016 election, President Trump made numerous promises to the American people about his goals for the county. One thing he focused on during his campaign was increasing our foreign relations with Israel and standing strong with them as our ally.
President Trump also talked about his goal of moving the United States Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Moving the embassy to Jerusalem is also a major step in recognizing Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.
Now, not even a year into his presidency, President Trump is keeping his promise. In a major announcement on Tuesday evening, reports state that President Trump plans to make the official announcement about Jerusalem and the embassy in less than 24 hours.
“While President Trump recognizes that the status of Jerusalem is a highly sensitive issue, he does not think it will be resolved by ignoring the simple truth that Jerusalem is home to Israel’s legislature, its Supreme Court, the prime minister and is such the capital of Israel,” one official said.
Many world leaders warned the U.S. against the decision and even said it could lead to horrible repercussions around the globe. Many Muslim countries said it could lead to unrest between Muslims and Christians.
While the announcement may come Wednesday, the process of moving the embassy will potentially take years. Numerous logistical factors have to be dealt with before the embassy can be relocated.
