President Trump has been offering his support to embattled Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore in recent days, but on Monday he made it official. Moore, the Republican Senate candidate in Alabama, has been accused of having had inappropriate sexual relations with underage girls.
In a statement, the White House told reporters that the president and Moore spoke on the phone. During the conversation, the president endorsed Moore’s senate campaign.
“The President had a positive call with Judge Roy Moore during which they discussed the state of the Alabama Senate race and the President endorsed Judge Moore’s campaign,” said principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah.
Moore spoke about the endorsement on his Twitter. He said President Trump told him, "Go get 'em, Roy!"
"Just got off the phone with President Trump who offered his full support and said he needs a fighter to help him in the US Senate," continued Moore.
He added, "I look forward to fighting alongside the President to #MAGA!"
Earlier on Monday, President Trump unofficially endorsed Moore. In a series of tweets, the President described why Moore needs to win.
“We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more.”
Moore also responded to these tweets, writing “Thankful for President Trump’s support."
Kayla Moore also responded to President Trump's support. She wrote on her Facebook on Monday morning to thank Trump.
“Judge Moore just got off the phone with President Trump-we have his full support! Thank you Mr. President! Let’s MAGA!”
