On Tuesday, President Trump clarified his earlier statement in Helsinki that seemed to say he didn't believe the U.S. intelligence conclusion that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, reported Fox News.
In a press conference, he said he misspoke when he said he doesn’t see why Russia would have meddled in the 2016 presidential election. He clarified that he does, in fact, accept the U.S. intelligence community’s findings of election interference.
The POTUS added that he meant to say that he doesn't see why Russia "wouldn't" be responsible.
In Helsinki, speaking at a press conference next to Vladimir Putin, President Trump had said he doesn't "see any reason why" Russia would be behind election meddling.
President Trump has taken fire from both Republicans and Democrats for the press conference with Putin. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, a Democrat from Maryland, said Trump's remarks were "nothing short of treason."
Likewise, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan took issue with President Trump's statement in Finland.
“Russia did meddle with our elections,” House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., told reporters on Capitol Hill Tuesday. “We know that they interfered, and we have passed sanctions…to make sure they don’t interfere again.”
However, he did not agree with Hoyer. When asked if he thought President Trump was treasonous, he replied, “I do not.”
Some people also suggested that there was something sinister about Putin's gift to Barron Trump. What do you think?
