President Trump is making headlines today after taking to Twitter with claims that President Obama, while still in office, had his phone tapped from Trump Tower.
"Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my 'wires tapped' in Trump Tower just before the victory, nothing found. This is McCarthyism." Tweeted President Trump.
President Trump also went on to say, “How low has President Obama gone to tapp (sic) my phones during the very sacred election process,” he wrote. “This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy! Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!”
The news comes on the heels of allegations that President Trump's campaign had numerous dealings with foreign governments, especially Russians.
Barack Obama has responded since the tweets were first published on Saturday morning.
“Neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false," said Kevin Lewis, a spokesman for the former president.
President Trump appears to be referencing an article on Breitbart that shows potential ties between the previous administration and allegations made to the Surveillance Court in 2016 to monitor communications in the computer server in Trump Tower.
We will bring more information on this story as it continues to develop!
