It's no secret that Ted Cruz and President Trump clashed during the 2016 election. Both men were fighting hard to earn the Republican nomination for President at the time.
Now, things are very different for the two leaders who were, at one time, fierce competitors. President Trump and Senator Cruz seem to now be great friends and partners!
Cruz is currently engaged in a tough election race in his home state of Texas. His challenger, Beto O'Rourke, has held nothing back in his attempt to unseat Ted. At a recent rally he even referred to Cruz by his former nickname from President Trump: Lyin' Ted.
Now, President Trump is answering back. In a recent interview he revealed a new nickname he has for the famous Texas Senator.
"President Trump sought to replace the nickname he gave Texas Sen. Ted Cruz ahead of their campaign rally in Houston on Monday. Trump often referred to Cruz as 'Lyin’ Ted' throughout the 2016 presidential campaign, but Trump said he now likes Cruz. 'He’s not Lyin’ Ted anymore,' Trump told reporters before departing for Texas. 'He’s beautiful Ted. I call him Texas Ted,'" according to the Washington Examiner.
The Texas race is extremely important. Ted's seat is a major one within the Republican Party and conservatives are counting on him to stay in office and use his voting power to support conservative principles. In an effort to derail Beto, President Trump took a shot at his campaign performance thus far.
“When I heard about him, I figured he must be something a little special. He’s not,” Trump said.
