On Friday morning, President Trump visited the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. He was invited to make a speech during the organization’s special graduation ceremony.
It is no secret that tensions have been high between the president and FBI authorities. The agency’s press secretary, Hogan Gidley, recently told Fox News that tensions and bias have increased due to investigations involving the 2016 presidential campaign.
Gidley said, “There is extreme bias against this president with high-up members of the team there at the FBI who were investigating Hillary Clinton at the time.”
According to PBS, however, Gidley believes that “Trump maintains confidence in the FBI’s rank-and-file.”
On the other side, President Trump said that the agency is “in tatters” and called it the “worst in history.” Hopefully, today’s speech will help to ease the tensions that have been present between the administration and the agency.
President Trump delivered a powerful speech to a group of graduates. The group completed a course for law enforcement managers.
President Trump said, “It is an honor to stand here today with the incredible men and women of law enforcement…With me as your President, America’s police will have a true friend and loyal champion in the White House- more loyal than anyone else can be.”
“On behalf of all Americans, to every law enforcement family here today and all across the nation, thank you, thank you, thank you very much,” he continued. “Being a police officer is not just a career. It’s a calling.”
He continued, talking about how police officers deserve a lot more acknowledgment than they are often given. He then said that he is on their team.
He said, “The President of the United States has your back 100%. I will fight for you and I will never, ever let you down, ever. Now more than ever we must support the men and women in blue.”
President Trump recognized that the police departments across the country are underfunded and understaffed. He also noted the countless lives that have been lost on unjust terms.
He said, “Every drop of blood spilled from our men and women in blue is a wound inflicted on our nation and when a brother or sister in uniform is hurt, on that day all of America bleeds blue.”
President Trump said that his priority is protecting those who protect the citizens of our country, and that those who kill police officers should be given the death penalty.
Near the end of his speech, the president brought up ending the chain migration system, something that he has mentioned several times in the past. He also brought up gang violence in the United States.
He continued, “You are the guardians who keep us safe, who ward off danger, and who confront evil so that the good will always prevail. Today, we honor you. We thank you, and we know that by your example some of the children here today and watching at home will be inspired to fill your shoes.”
