One of the greatest achievements in American history was sending astronauts to the moon. Now, President Trump is set to make a major announcement about the future of the space program.

According to reports, President Trump is set to sign a directive ordering NASA to send astronauts back to the moon! The directive also makes plans to potentially send astronauts to Mars.

The directive is the first space policy for the Trump administration. It is set to be signed at the White House on Monday.

“He will change our nation’s human spaceflight policy to help America become the driving force for the space industry, gain new knowledge from the cosmos, and spur incredible technology,” Spokesman Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

Americans were excited to learn about the new opportunity the White House is delivering to the space program. The plan to send humans on Lunar missions hasn't been done since Apollo 17 in 1972.

“We will return American astronauts to the moon, not only to leave behind footprints and flags, but to build the foundation we need to send Americans to Mars and beyond," said Vice President Mike Pence.
