A tragic story recently emerged from San Bernardino, California. A 39-year-old woman, Maribel Gonzalez, was struck by a vehicle late evening on July 11th.
The mother of four was pregnant with her fifth child and due sometime in August. Unfortunately, both she and the unborn child were killed almost immediately on impact and pronounced dead at the scene.
Family and friends held a prayer vigil for Gonzales and her baby the following night. Flowers, candles, and a sign appeared to be placed at the intersection where the tragic incident occurred.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after hitting Gonzales — leaving the hit-and-run case unsolved for several days. However, the driver — who has now been identified as 31-year-old Mercedes Vanesa Guevara — was taken into custody on Monday, July 16th, reported Fox News.
According to ABC 7, Guevara ran a red light while speeding in a Dodge Charger. After striking the pregnant mother who was walking in the crosswalk, the female suspect crashed into a tree and was picked up by an unidentified person in another vehicle.
This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
Please keep this family in your prayers during this difficult time. May God bring them peace and comfort.
