A terrorist attack in Barcelona, Spain on Thursday, left at least 13 people dead and 50 injured. The event occurred when a large white van went running into a crowd. We have been covering the event here at Faith, Family, America since details were first available this morning.
Many prominent political and religious leaders have issued statements about the attack. President Trump was the first to comment. In a tweet, he remarked that the United States would do whatever necessary to help Spain in the aftermath of the attack. He also encouraged Spain to be brave and tough. Then when Vice President Pence commented he didn't hold back. Instead, he insisted that the United States would help to find and punish those responsible. Former President Obama also issued a statement, remarking that he and his wife are "thinking" about the victims.
Pope Francis has now made clear to the world what he thinks about the attacks.
"The Holy Father has learned with great concern what's happening in Barcelona," remarked Pope Francis's spokesman, American journalist Greg Burke. "The pope is praying for the victims of this attack, and desires to express his closeness to the entire Spanish population, in particular to the wounded and to the families of the victims."
Other Catholic leaders have also issued statements.
"I condemn the attack committed in Barcelona, with dead and wounded, which fills our hearts with pain and solidarity with the victims," remarked retired Cardinal Sistach, who led the Archdiocese of Barcelona from 2004 to 2015.
"I condemn the attack committed in Barcelona... commending the souls of the victims to God and am accompanying their relatives in prayer," remarked Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona, Sebastian Taltavull.
Other members of the Spanish hierarchy have issued similar statements.
Pope Francis has made headlines recently for other comments as well. Recently, Pope Francis made an interesting remark about those who are transgender. And he also issued a statement to Americans about the North Korea threat. The pope's remark about the coming solar eclipse, and what it might mean about the end times, also sparked the interest of many Americans.
In recent news, ISIS made an alarming announcement about the Barcelona terrorist attack.
