Pope Francis Makes Passionate Pro-Life Remarks Amidst New U.S. Abortion Laws

Pope Francis subtly came out in support of the new U.S. abortion laws that aim to prevent women from taking the life of their unborn child. At least five states — Missouri, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, and Ohio — have already passed some variation of a “fetal heartbeat” bill, which bans abortions after the baby’s heartbeat is detected, reported CBS News.

On Saturday, May 24th, Pope Francis insisted that abortion is never an acceptable option. The Pope is a well-known advocate for the unborn, so his latest passionate remarks come as no surprise to the public.

According to Fox News, the Pope condemned the act of abortion in all circumstances including if the baby is sick or has a minimal chance of surviving after birth. He compared abortion to “hiring a hitman” and said that any human is “never incompatible with life.”

“Is it licit to throw away a life to resolve a problem?” he asked. “Is it licit to hire a hitman to resolve a problem?”

“Taking care of these children helps parents to grieve and not only think of it as a loss, but as a step on a path taken together,” Francis added.

However, Pope Francis did assure God’s forgiveness for those who have previously had an abortion. Given Francis’ comments, it’s important to note that the Bible clearly stresses that all of God’s children are forgiven for their sins through Jesus Christ and are not identified by their past (Colossians 3:13, Isaiah 43:18).
