A simple act of kindness has warmed the hearts of millions after a video captured a physical education teacher fixing a students hair. The video shows teacher Jonathan Oliver helping kindergartener Kristen Paulk put her hair in a ponytail during gym class.
Oliver didn't know at the time the video, which has been viewed over 3 million times, was being filmed. Assistant kindergarten teacher Kandice Anderson captured the moment and put the video on Facebook with the caption, "When your job goes beyond teaching... #CoachO #LoveIt."
"It was shocking to me that it got that much attention because we all do it," Oliver, 34, told "Good Morning America."
"We [teachers] want to make them feel like they're at home and that they enjoy being here," he added. "We try to love on them as much as possible. To me, it was just a ponytail."
Oliver, who is a father of three, said he was glad she asked for a ponytail because he wouldn't have been able to do much other than that.
"It was a good thing she asked for a ponytail," Oliver said, laughing. "Anything else, I'd say, 'You better ask your mom.'"
Kristen's mom, Miyah Cleckley shared with "Good Morning America" that she was just as moved by the video as well.
"I always know that Kristen is in very good hands with him," Cleckley said of Oliver. "I thought it was really cute because her father he does their hair a lot. We have five girls and one son so when I'm working he has to pick up the weight of doing their hair."
