Christian Pastor and father of 2, Saeed Abedini, gained national attention in 2012 after news broke that he was being held captive in an Iranian prison on “evangelizing” charges. Abedini, who converted from Muslim to Christianity, was imprisoned over his faith on one of his trips to Iran where he was building an orphanage at the time.

The pastor spent nearly four years in prison, where he faced brutal beatings and cruelty. His wife, Naghmeh Abedini, fought long and hard to get her husband released, gaining support from prominent people including former president Barack Obama and Christian evangelist Franklin Graham.

However, upon Abedini’s return in 2016, his wife filed for legal separation. The two are no longer together and Abedini reportedly moved to Virginia to continue his work in ministry, reported CBN News.

Since their separation, Abedini has been arrested multiple times. His most recent arrest came on Sunday evening, March 18th.

According to the Idaho Statesman, Abedini was arrested by the Boise Police Department on a misdemeanor charge of violating the no-contact order with his wife. The order states that he is only allowed to contact her about their two children, but Abedini allegedly sent her hateful messages.

The pastor appeared in court on Monday and pled not guilty to the charges. However, he did plead guilty to violating a restraining order last year and to domestic abuse in 2007.

As of Monday afternoon, Abedini remains in Ada County jail. He is being held on a $500 bond.
