Over the weekend, American Pastor Andrew Brunson finally returned to U.S. soil. The pastor had been sentenced to prison in Turkey after being accused of spying and aiding terrorists. Although his initial sentence was for over 3 years, the Turkish government set him free early following multiple requests from the White House administration.
On Saturday when Brunson landed on U.S. soil, he immediately began kissing the American flag that he was given. Additionally, President Trump invited him to pay a special visit to the Oval Office.
President Trump wrote, "Pastor Andrew Brunson, released by Turkey, will be with me in the Oval Office at 2:30 p.m. (this afternoon). It will be wonderful to see and meet him. He is a great Christian who has been through such a tough experience. I would like to thank President @RT_Erdogan for his help!"
He continued, "There was NO DEAL made with Turkey for the release and return of Pastor Andrew Brunson. I don't make deals for hostages. There was, however, great appreciation on behalf of the United States, which will lead to good, perhaps great, relations between the United States & Turkey!"
During his visit to the White House, Pastor Brunson shared a powerful moment with President Trump. The pastor kneeled in prayer for the president and for the United States.
When the pastor asked if he could pray, Trump responded, "Well, I need it probably more than anybody else in this room. So that would be very nice, thank you."
Below was Pastor Brunson's prayer:
"Lord God, I ask that you pour out your Holy Spirit on President Trump, that you give him supernatural wisdom to accomplish all the plans you have for this country and for him. I ask that you give him wisdom in how to lead this country into righteousness. I ask that you give him perseverance, and endurance and courage to stand for truth."
"I ask that you protect him from slander from enemies, from those who would undermine. I ask that you make him a great blessing to this country. Fill him with your wisdom and strength and perseverance. And we bless him. May he be a great blessing to our country. In Jesus' name, we bless you. Amen."
Pastor Brunson's wife then added, "I just want to pray that the Holy Spirit of the Lord would rest on the president, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord."
