Some horrible news was just reported out of Paris, France. According to initial reports, at least 3 people were killed and dozens more injured after an explosion.
According to Fox News, a gas leak at a Paris bakery caused a “powerful blast.” Following the explosion and fire, everyone in the surrounding area was evacuated.
The explosion was so strong that it blasted out of the windows and overturned several cars, according to authorities. As of Friday afternoon, 3 people had been reported dead, and at least 47 people were reported as being injured, with 10 in critical condition.
Two of the people that were killed were firefighters. The third victim was a Spanish woman.
Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said, “I deeply regret the death of three people after the explosion in central Paris, including a Spanish woman.”
France’s interior minister Christophe Castaner said that the “situation is under control” but that the “human toll is particularly serious.”
Following the blast, over 200 firefighters and police were sent in as first responders. Additionally, a helicopter landed in the area in order to help evacuate injured people.
At this point, the explosion is assumed to be caused by an accidental gas leak. However, Paris prosecutor Remy Heitz said that the investigation was still open.
Several firefighters were reportedly already on the scene when the explosion occurred, as they had been called in to check on the gas leak.
One witness said, “In the middle of nothing, I heard one big explosion and then a lot of pressure came at me (and) a lot of black smoke and glass. And I had just enough time to get down and cover myself and protect my head.”
Please be praying for everyone involved in this horrible accident, and please especially pray for the 10 people currently fighting for their lives in critical condition. Share your prayers here! In other recent news, a legendary Christian singer just said a tearful goodbye to his wife of 65 years.
