Washington Post contributor Paul Waldman of The American Prospect appears to be in full-blown panic mode as he coming to realize that Donald Trump may win the presidency, and even if he doesn't, conservatives are not simply going to admit defeat and throw in the towel.
In an opinion piece titled "Republicans are now vowing Total War. And the consequences could be immense" the deeply distraught writer exclaimed, "Republicans, led by Donald Trump but by no means limited to him, are engaging in kind of termite-level assault on American democracy, one that looks on the surface as though it’s just aimed at Hillary Clinton, but in fact is undermining our entire system."
He cites the FBI's deeply damaging criminal investigations into Hillary Clinton, WikiLeaks, impeachment threats, a refusal to nominate liberal Supreme Court justices, voter ID laws, and Republicans joking about using a Hillary magazine cover for target practice as evidence that "something extraordinary is happening."
Waldman added, "[Republicans] are making it very clear that from literally the day Hillary Clinton is inaugurated, they will wage total war on her. "
"We should all be very worried about what Republicans will do after November 8," Waldman concluded, "Whether they win or lose."
