On Saturday, May 19, the world will watch with anticipation as Prince Harry and American Meghan Markle get married. The wedding is projected to be one of the most watched events in the last several years.
The couple announced their engagement last November, and fans immediately were asking for all of the wedding details. Over the last few months, the Kensington Palace has been slowly revealing various details of the special occasion.
Now, the Communications Secretary to Prince Harry has released another formal statement giving even more wedding details and updates as we near the big day. One of the main elements that the secretary focused on was the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan were wanting to ensure that the public felt welcomed and honored throughout the event.
The statement said, “We said from the outset that Prince Harry and Ms. Markle were keen to make sure that members of the public would have the opportunity to feel part of the celebrations on their wedding day. This is their way of expressing their gratitude for the messages of support they have received from around the UK, the Commonwealth, Ms. Markle’s home country of the United States, and right around the world.”
The secretary noted that the couple will be anticipating the arrival of Ms. Markle’s parents to Windsor. Both families are expected to spend quality time together the week of the wedding. Both of Meghan's parents will play a prominent role in the big day, as well as the Queen, the Prince of Wales, and Prince William.
Additionally, the secretary noted that Prince Harry wanted his mother’s family to play a role in the special day. All three of Diana’s siblings will be in attendance and Lady Jane Fellowes will give the reading.
The statement said that over the next two weeks leading up to the wedding, the palace will release more details about the following: the instrument of consent, details of bridesmaids and page boys, the work of the florists, an update from the wedding cake baker, and the full order of service.
The statement also outlined their plan to make transportation as seamless as possible on the day of and day before the wedding. Because 1,200 members of the public were nominated as guests, the palace had to be even more intentional about how to make traffic flow as smooth as possible.
