As the extravagant wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle nears, Royals’ fans have speculated who’s on their guest list. The public even suspected that former president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama would receive an invitation since they have all been very friendly over the years.
When asked about the Obamas' potential wedding invite, Harry previously stated, "Well, I don't know about that. We haven't put the invites or the guest list together yet so who knows whether he's going to be invited or not. Wouldn't want to ruin that surprise."
The speculations also initially stirred a massive controversy fearing how President Donald Trump would react to the situation. As of April 2018, President Trump has not yet met the Queen of England.
However, the palace confirmed on Tuesday that Obama did not receive a wedding invitation. According to CNN, Prince Harry and Ms. Markle decided not to invite any political leaders.
"It has been decided that an official list of political leaders — both UK and international — is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle's wedding,” the statement revealed. “Her Majesty's Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by the royal household."
This means that President Trump or Prime Minister Theresa May were also not invited to the May wedding.
Fortunately for fans, the palace has named a few special guests who will be attending the wedding. Read the details here.
