A massive outbreak has just prompted millions of Americans to double check their refrigerators. Officials have announced that a potentially deadly listeria contamination has spread across multiple states.

At this time, four states are said to be impacted. Officials believe the source of the infection is deli meats and cheeses. However, in a truly terrifying development, they haven't been able to accurately identify the exact products in question.

"The CDC, USDA, and FDA are currently investigating a four-state outbreak of Listeria. Eight people have currently been hospitalized, and one person in Michigan has died. The outbreak is active in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. According to a notice from the CDC, 'Epidemiologic and laboratory evidence indicates that meats and cheeses sliced at deli counters might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and could make people sick,'" writes Cooking Light.

The CDC is recommending retailers in the area stop selling deli meats and cheeses for now. They also recommend that people stop eating them while they try and find the source of the contamination.

"Listeria symptoms are flu-like and include fatigue, stiff neck, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, and muscle aches. If you believe you’ve consumed affected deli products, and/or are experiencing these signs and symptoms, contact your healthcare provider and let them know immediately," according to reports.

We will bring you updates on this story as it develops. Please join us in praying for the officials working the case and also for those who may potentially be ill. May God heal them and comfort them at this time.
