On Sunday, June 9th, Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz — famously referred to as “Big Papi” — was shot at a club in the Dominican Republic. Ortiz’s loved ones and fans have been praying for complete healing since the sad incident occurred.
As previously reported, he is expected to make a full recovery. The designated hitter required a 6-hour surgery and was placed into an Intensive Care Unit.
A new health update was released on Ortiz, 43, Tuesday morning. According to CNN, he was flown back to Boston overnight following his surgery.
The investigation is still underway. However, it does appear that the shooting was targeted. Surveillance video shows the shooter coming up behind him and shooting him in the back. Suspect Eddy Vladimir Féliz García is in custody, but another person believed to be involved is still at large.
This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available. The motive remains unknown as of 1:45 PM ET on Tuesday.
Before Monday night’s game, Mr. Ortiz was honored with a moment of “reflection, thought and prayer for a complete healing and a full recovery for [the] beloved 'Big Papi.'" The entire stadium stood in silence in support of the baseball legend, reported TMZ.
