Oprah Winfrey is talking about the 2020 election again. She's making it very clear that she won't be running for president.
People have been asking Oprah to run since a speech at the Golden Globes in January 2018. After the speech that lauded "a new day is on the horizon," people speculated that she would challenge President Trump in 2020.
In a new interview, Winfrey is once again dampening those hopes. She told British Vogue that she wouldn't be able to handle a presidential run.
"In that political structure—all the non-truths, the bull****, the c***, the nastiness, the backhanded backroom stuff that goes on—I feel like I could not exist," said the 64-year-old. "I would not be able to do it. It's not a clean business. It would kill me."
In March, Oprah talked to People about what it would take for her to run for president. She discussed the amount of support she'd received, but she said that wasn't enough.
“I had people—wealthy, billionaires—calling me up and saying, ‘I can get you a billion dollars. I can run your campaign,”‘ Winfrey said. “That many people saying something made me think, ‘Am I at least supposed to look at the question?’ ”
She revealed that it would take a sign from God for her to run. Clearly, she didn't receive that sign.
“I went into prayer,” she shared. “‘God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it.’ And I haven’t gotten that.”
