The oldest person in the United States has sadly passed away after an incredibly long life.

Lessie Brown died on Tuesday, according to her grandson Ronald Wilson. Brown was 114 years old when she passed away.

Brown was from Ohio. She had been living with her daughter in Cleveland Heights for the last few years of her life.

Brown said it was God's will that she lived so long. Some members of her family attributed her long life to a diet heavy on sweet potatoes.

Brown was born in 1904 in Georgia where she grew up on a farm. She moved to Cleveland with her family when she was 18. She married and had five children with her husband.

Brown became the oldest person in the country in May 2018. On May 9, the oldest person, Delphine Gibson, passed away in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. She was also 114.

Brown had a remarkably long life, but that doesn't mean that her family won't miss her. Please pray for them as they mourn her passing.
