Last November, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made history when she became the youngest woman to ever become a Congresswoman-elect. The 28-year-old New York native is now full-speed-ahead in the House.
Throughout her short time with the election and now as an official Congresswoman, Ocasio-Cortez has focused on bringing change to Capitol Hill. She has said and done things that Congress members before her have not, and she has attributed it all to the idea that she is advocating for change. Many have criticized her drastic statements and socialist views, while she has earned the support of others.
Now, Ocasio-Cortez has apologized to a member of the Trump family after criticizing him on social media. The Democratic Rep. had an interview with 60 Minutes where she apologized to Donald Trump Jr.
In the beginning of December, Ocasio-Cortez took to social media to send a warning to Donald Trump Jr. after he had posted a controversial meme about the then-Congresswoman elect.
Ocasio-Cortez wrote, “I have noticed that Junior here has a habit of posting nonsense about me whenever the Mueller investigation heats up. Please, keep it coming Jr- it’s definitely a ‘very, very large brain’ idea to troll a member of a body that will have subpoena power in a month. Have fun!”
The Democratic Rep. posted those words along with a link to a Washington Post article about Donald Trump Jr.’s criticism of Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist views.
A month after she posted the Tweet, Ocasio-Cortez apologized for it. This was after several people commented on it, noting that it appeared to be an “abuse of power.”
Ocasio-Cortez said, “Well, if he felt genuinely threatened by me, I apologize. But I think, frankly, it’s legal advice that any person would give him.”
The host, Anderson Cooper, replied, “You do know that most politicians don’t apologize for anything? You’ve broken that rule now too.”
To that, the representative replied, “Yeah, I’m breaking all the rules.”
