Obama Answers Why He Is Content To Leave Four American Prisoners In Iran

July 18, 2015Jul 18, 2015

Respected CBS White House correspondent Major Garrett got under President Obama's skin with a bold question following Obama’s press conference announcing the nuclear deal with Iran, according to this Fox news article.

“Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content with all the fanfare around this deal to leave the conscious of this nation, the strength of this nation, unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?”, Major Garrett asked.

The four Americans that Garrett is referring to are:

Robert Levinson (Retired FBI Agent).  He has been held prisoner since 2007.

Jason Rezaian (Washington Post Reporter).  He has been held prisoner since July of 2014.

Amir Hekmati (Former US Marine).  He has been held prisoner since 2012.

Saeed Abedini (Christian Pastor).  He has been held prisoner since January of 2013.

Notably upset after Garrett's question, Obama paused a moment and then scolded Garrett, saying, "You should know better."

He said that teams are working "diligently' to get the Americans back but that tying their release to the deal would leave America vulnerable in the deal and they would have to give more up to Iran in return.  He said the two issues (getting our prisoners returned and making a weapons sanction deal) were unrelated.

It is unthinkable that Obama and the American negotiators didn’t demand the American prisoners back as part of the deal!  In 2014, Obama was willing to give 5 terrorist leaders back to the Taliban in exchange for 1 soldier who has since been charged with desertion.

What do you think?  Do you the release of the American prisoners being held in Iran should have been a part of the deal?  Do you think we made a good deal?  We would love to hear your thoughts!
