A North Korean state media called Rodong Sinmun, warned the United States of a “super-mighty preemptive strike.”
The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper for North Korea, wrote, "In the case of our super-mighty pre-emptive strike being launched, it will completely and immediately wipe out not only U.S. imperialists' invasion forces in South Korea and its surrounding areas but the U.S. mainland and reduce them to ashes," according to Reuters.
North Korea has recently increased it’s missile and nuclear weapons programs. On Sunday, it tried to test and fire another missile, but it was unsuccessful.
The attempted launch occurred a day after the regime of Kim Jong Un boasted of their missiles at a huge military parade on the Day of the Sun, North Korea's most important holiday.
U.S. and South Korean officials have been saying for several weeks that North Korea could soon stage another nuclear test in violation of United Nations sanctions.
South Korea said on Friday it was on heightened alert because of another important anniversary coming up in North Korea. The 85th anniversary of the foundation of its Korean People's Army on Tuesday, an important anniversary that comes at the end of major winter military drills, South Korea's Unification Ministry spokesman said.
President Trump has unequivocally told Kim not to perform any more tests and he has asked China to work to keep the dictator in check.
