NFL legend Jerry Rice, who played wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, has something new to celebrate. During his career, he won three Super Bowls. On Saturday, he won the hand of his longtime girlfriend.
While onstage at a DeBartolo Family Foundation gala at the Waterside Marriott Hotel in Tampa, Rice proposed to his girlfriend Latisha Pelayo. TMZ obtained a video of the adorable proposal, according to the NY Daily News.
“I have four words that I want to say to her. That I want to say to this woman that has supported me for so many years," said the 55-year-old Hall-of-Famer. "Latisha, Will you marry me?"
In the video, Rice is seen pulling a ring out of a suit jacket. Pelayo simply responded by nodding her agreement.
Rice and Pelayo have been dating since 2008. This is his second marriage. He and his first wife Jacqueline Bernice Mitchell have three children together.
On the night of the proposal, Rice shared an Instagram image showing him with his bride-to-be. He accompanied the picture with a meaningful caption: "Pursue what catches your heart, not what catches your eye."
"The DeBartolo Family Foundation was founded in 2001 by Eddie DeBartolo, who owned the 49ers during Rice's tenure with the team. The charitable organization seeks to provide opportunities and support those in need in the Tampa area, as well as outside of it," explained the NY Daily News.
Congratulations to the couple! In other news, the cause of death was just revealed for a Grammy award-winning legend whose wife was accused of abusing him prior to his death.
