NFL Hall of Famer Suddenly Dead at 48

Cortez Kennedy, legendary NFL Hall of Famer, suddenly passed away in Florida at age 48 on Tuesday.

The cause of death is currently unknown, but TMZ reports that ‘nothing is suspicious’ about his passing. Although the actual cause of death is not known, more information has been released. According to International Business Times, the former football player was suffering headaches prior to his death and was found unconscious with no vitals. 

Kennedy played in the NFL for 11 seasons from 1990-2000 before retiring, spending his entire professional football career with the Seattle Seahawks. He received NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1992 and was finally elected into the Hall of Fame in 2012.

The Seattle Seahawks released an official statement on Tuesday.

The team has honored Kennedy with many special tributes via social media and other warm-hearted gestures including lighting up the CenturyLink Field with the 'bright spirit' of Cortez Kennedy. The Seahawks also changed their profile picture to Kennedy's number (96) and the header photo to an image of him playing on the field. 

Many other football stars have expressed their condolences including Jerry Rice and John Elway.
