On Monday, June 17, the sad news was confirmed that model and fashion icon Gloria Vanderbilt had passed away. In addition to her other accomplishments, she's the mother of news anchor Anderson Cooper.
Her son announced the news that his mother had died at the age of 95. According to Fox News, Anderson said, “Gloria Vanderbilt was an extraordinary woman, who loved life, and lived it on her own terms. She was a painter, a writer, and designer but also a remarkable mother, wife, and friend. She was 95 years old, but ask anyone close to her, and they’d tell you, she was the youngest person they knew, the coolest, and most modern. She died this morning, the way she wanted to- at home, surrounded by family and friends."
Reportedly, Gloria had found out that she had stomach cancer several weeks before her death. She was hospitalized after discovering that her cancer had metastasized.
After he laid his mother to rest, Cooper took to Instagram to share his feelings. He got emotional about his mother's love.
He wrote, "In the end, after all else is stripped away, there is only love. My mom believed in love more than anyone. It was her guide, her solace, it’s what drove her, and in her final moments, it is what surrounded her. “i love you, you know that,” she would say to me, and i did, i knew it from the moment i was born, and i will know it till the moment i die. It was her greatest gift to me."
Prior to being a model and fashion icon, Vanderbilt was an heiress. When she was only 18-months-old, she inherited half of a $5 million trust fund after her father, Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt, passed away. When she was a teenager, she began modeling and made a name for herself as a socialite.
She was married four times. She called her final marriage, to Wyatt Cooper, her “only happy marriage.” Together they shared sons Anderson and Carter.
Please join us in praying for Anderson Cooper and the rest of Gloria's family and friends during this time. May God give them peace and healing.
