A horrible tragedy sadly took place on New Year’s Eve. Several people were tragically killed in a shooting after a 16-year-old boy opened fire in his New Jersey home.

The shooting occurred just minutes before midnight—a truly devastating way to ring in the New Year.

The suspect, who has not been identified to the public as of Tuesday morning, shot his parents, his older sister, and an elderly family friend. The victims have been identified as 42-year-old Linda Kologi, 44-year-old Steven Kologi, 18-year-old Brittany Kologi, and 70-year-old Mary Schultz, reported CNN.

The 16-year-old is alive and in custody. It is unclear what charges he will face, but he is expected to be charged as an adult. If he is indeed charged as an adult, his identity may be released even though he is a minor.

Although little information is known about the shooter, some details were released on Tuesday, January 2nd. According to WGNTV, neighbors revealed that he struggled with mental illness and was special needs.

Fox News stated that the suspect’s brother and grandfather were also home at the time of the incident, but were thankfully unharmed.

According to local authorities, the gun was legally owned by a family member and this is believed to be an “isolated domestic incident.” A motive for the attack was not given.

The teen is facing four counts of murder and one count for unlawful use of a weapon.

Please pray for this family and their loved ones during this difficult time. May God bring them comfort, peace, and healing.
