One of the most well-known athletes in the world of wrestling has just opened up about a shocking experience. Fans and reporters were floored to learn of the incident, which happened years ago but is only now coming to national attention.
Roddy Piper, better known as “Rowdy Roddy Piper” by his fans in wrestling, shared his story recently. Piper is a WWE Hall of Famer but apparently, his life was almost cut short, literally.
Piper died in 2015. However, the new interview about the incident only surfaced recently. In the interview, Piper describes the night he was stabbed by a man with a knife.
"First rule of a knife fight -- don’t take your eyes off the knife. Broke that rule. I stopped, boom -- he got me an inch from the heart,” he said in the interview.
Even though he had been stabbed, Piper was most likely in shock. He was able to chase the man back into the stands where police caught the individual.
"Closest I’ve ever seen to somebody get shot, I think. ... They had him down, and the policeman that had the pistol that I ran into turned, and he had it towards the back of his head,” he said.
Piper was lucky to recover from the incident. The whole interview can be watched here. Proceeds from the documentary are being donated to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland -- Piper's adopted hometown.
