A new recall has just been announced for a popular blood pressure medication. Losartan has announced they are recalling new lots of their drug for fear it may have cancer-related links.
"Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall in the United States of 35 lots of bulk Losartan Potassium USP Tablets. This recall is due to the detection of a cancer-causing impurity – N-Nitroso-N-methyl-4-aminobutyric acid (NMBA)," wrote Fox.
According to reports, the drug was sold exclusively to a California based medical supply company. The bulk product was sold under their own label and distributed in bottles of 30, 90, and 1000 tablets.
The products in question can be seen below:
-Losartan Potassium tablets, USP 25 mg, are light-green, film-coated, teardrop-shaped biconvex tablet with “LK 25” on one side and “>” on the other side
-Losartan Potassium tablets, USP 100 mg, are dark green, film-coated, oval-shaped biconvex tablets with “LK100” on one side and “>” on the other side
At this time, the recall is a preemptive action to stop customers from having adverse effects. There have not been any cancer related incidents at this time.
The pills were sold exclusively to Golden State Medical Supply of Camarillo, California, according to Fox News. Golden State Medical Supply packaged them and branded them under their own marketing.
