In June of 2019, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that she would be stepping down from her role in Washington, DC. She revealed that she is ready to return back home to Arkansas and focus on being a mother, but she did assure that she was grateful for her time working under the Trump administration.

First Lady Melania Trump’s communications director Stephanie Grisham was reported to be the top contender to replace Sanders, according to CBS News. She is reportedly one of the few White House officials left that has been with the Trump family since the 2016 presidential campaign.

On Tuesday morning, Mrs. Trump confirmed that Grisham will indeed be taking over Sanders’ position. Melania did not specify who will now be in charge of her communications.

“I am pleased to announce Stephanie Grisham will be the next Press Secretary & Comms Director!” the First Lady wrote in a Twitter post. “She has been with us since 2015 - President Donald Trump & I can think of no better person to serve the Administration & our country. Excited to have Stephanie working for both sides of the White House.”

"She's been with him from the very beginning. She's proven her chops with the First Lady's Office, which has avoided the missteps that often plagued the West Wing press staff. She's tough as nails. The press respects her. And most importantly, Trump trusts her," a White House spokesperson told CBS News.
