The birth of a baby is usually a beautiful and memorable event. However, according to one California mom, her experience when giving birth to her daughter was anything but that.
Delfina Mota, 26, is suing her hospital after she claims she underwent a C-section without any anesthesia. Mota shared her story with PEOPLE after her alleged horrific experience on November 13.
“I was crying because I was scared, I didn’t know what was going on. I was laying there and [obstetrician Dr. Sandra Lopez] was like, ‘We have to just do it," Mota said.
“That’s when I felt them cut me open. Nurses were holding me down … I could feel her cutting me and, with her hands, opening me. That’s when I passed out," she continued.
Moto and her finacé, Paul Iheanachor, have filed a lawsuit against Tristan-City Medical Center in Oceanside, California. The couple is seeking $5 million in damages.
The lawsuit claims that although Dr. David Serif gave her her initial epidural, he could not be reached again when Mota required an emergency C-section. While Mota insists she was not numb when she underwent the procedure, the hospital has responded to the claims calling them "outrageous."
Iheanachor, who was not allowed in the delivery room, claims the hospital offered the couple a $25 gift card in an effort to smooth the situation over. While it has been 8 months since the birth of her daughter, she claims she is still not feeling like herself and had difficulty bonding with her daughter Cali.
