New Evidence in Gender Reveal Party Shooting; Police Wondering What to Believe

On Saturday, July 8th, in Ohio, a happy celebration took a turn for the worst. Family and friends were celebrating a gender reveal party when two gunmen entered the home and opened fire, killing one person and leaving eight other injuries.

Gender reveal parties are commonly held for a pregnant couple who wants to find out the gender of their baby with friends and family members by their side. It is usually filled with some sort of extravagant display of pink or blue and a merry time for all.

After the festivities slowed down, about a dozen of the remaining party goers sat down to watch a movie. That’s when the two men walked into the home and began shooting before they made a quick escape.

22-year-old Autumn Garrett was pronounced dead at the scene, while eight others were injured. Three of those injured were young children.

Another injured was the recipient of the party- the woman who was finding out the gender of her unborn child. She was reportedly shot in the leg and lost the baby. Now, new evidence is causing the police to ask many questions.

It was reported on Monday morning that the woman who the party was for and who supposedly lost her unborn baby, 21-year-old Cheyanne Willis, was never even pregnant in the first place.

Police Chief Mark Denney said, “Sadly, the Police Department, media and public, have been given information we have found to be is false. Hours and days have been wasted following leads known to be lies when they were provided to our officers. From the very beginning of this investigation, we have met significant resistance that is uncommon from victims of crime wanting a resolution.”

He later said, “As an example, we were led to believe an unborn was murdered in this incident only to find out that was not the case. That information is not provided to embarrass anyone, only to provide a fair understanding of the challenges we have faced in the past nine days.”

Thus far, there is no explanation about why Willis lied about the pregnancy and no arrests have been made. The Colerian Police Department reported that they “will not comment further on any other misleading information, other than to say we wish our time had been spent on true leads that would help us remove these dangerous criminals from the streets.”

What was already a tragic situation has turned into a confusing one as well. We are praying and believing for some redemption to come from this horrific incident.
