A new dad was on his way home from the hospital after visiting his wife and new daughter when tragedy struck.
Kevin Quinn, 32, of Mashpee, Massachusetts, was driving his SUV when another car struck him in a head-on collision. He was taken to a hospital and later died of his injuries.
Quinn was a former Marine and had served two tours in Afghanistan before coming home to marry his dream girl, according to PEOPLE. Their daughter, Logan Audrey Quinn, was born July 25.
A GoFundMe account has been set up in their name and as of Monday afternoon, over $175,000 has been raised to help the family.
According to The Boston Globe, Quinn spent Friday night with his wife and daughter in the hospital and was on his way home, planning to come back for them and take them with him to start their new life together as a family.
The Globe reported that a Mashpee police officer had been pursuing a Toyota that was driving erratically and speeding. The police officer noted his own speed while blaring his sirens. Two minutes later, it ended when it collided with Quinn’s SUV.
The Toyota sedan was being driven by a 22-year-old who was ejected and died, and a 24-year-old passenger, who was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition. An investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the crash.
“We can’t wrap our heads around this happening,” said Rob Dinan, a family friend in an interview with the Globe. “Kevin was an all-around great guy. He served his country honorably and gave of himself.”
