A white van recently rammed into pedestrians in Toronto on Monday, according to The Hill. At the very least, eight to ten people are injured as a result, and it is possible that deaths will be reported later today.
The driver was recently taken into custody.
Authorities remarked that they are not yet aware of the extent of the injuries, but they are currently investigating the matter. Police were called to the scene immediately after the incident.
"Too early to confirm the number of pedestrians struck or their injuries," police said, according to The Hill.
According to CBS News, authorities do not yet know the cause of the incident.
A police spokesperson, Meaghan Gray, says that the van apparently jumped the curb. The incident occurred on Monday as Cabinet ministers from the G7 countries were gathering in Toronto to discuss a range of international issues as the June G7 meeting near Quebec City approaches.
The suspect has been arrested in the aftermath of the smash in the Canadian capital.
The local subway service has been suspended after the crash.
“He started going down on the sidewalk and crumbling down people one by one,” said a witness, according to the Daily Star. “He just destroyed so many people’s lives,” he continued. “Every single thing that got in his way.”
