On the night of August 16, 2015, Morgan Freeman's granddaughter was tragically murdered. Now, her boyfriend, who stabbed her 25 times according to TMZ, has been quitted of her murder.

According to reports by People and TMZ, the boyfriend of Morgan Freeman’s granddaughter, E’Dena Hines, was convicted of manslaughter on Monday. Hines and her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport, were both 33 at the time of her murder.

According to People, Hines’ grandmother is Freeman’s first wife. Hines’ mother was Freeman’s stepdaughter until he adopted her.

Hines attended a graduate acting program at New York University from 2008 to 2011 and starred in the film "Landing Up," The filmed premiered in 2017 after her death.

While Davenport was not found guilty of murder, he was found guilty of manslaughter. Judge Ellen Biben did not explain her verdict.

On August 16th, Hines was found lying in the street outside her home at 3 a.m. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The prosecution argued that Davenport killed Hines because he was angry that she was going to break up with him. Text messages that were sent leading up to the murder show that Davenport and Hines had talked about taking a break.

However, Davenport’s lawyers argued that he was high on PCP on August 16, 2015. According to defense witness Xavier Gardere, Davenport straddled Hines as he stabbed, her, screaming “I love you. I always loved you. God would have wanted this.”

In a statement to People immediately after Hines was killed, Freeman reflected on his granddaughter and all the owls lost from her untimely death.

“The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer,” he said. “Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”

There are no reports on whether the Hines family plans to appeal. Davenport is scheduled to be sentenced on May 29th.
