On Thursday, May 24th, news broke that Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman, 80, was facing multiple sexual misconduct allegations. This news comes amidst several other celebrities being accused of sexual assault following the massive Harvey Weinstein scandal that erupted last year.
According to NBC News, eight women publicly accused Freeman of “harassment and inappropriate behavior.” Eight other people confirmed that they witnessed incidents regarding Freeman’s sexual harassment.
CNN first released the report, which goes into detail about the nature of the accusations. One woman claimed that Freeman frequently subjected her to “unwanted touching and comments about her figure and clothing.”
Another woman who worked on the set of “Now You See Me” told CNN, "He did comment on our bodies... We knew that if he was coming by ... not to wear any top that would show our breasts, not to wear anything that would show our bottoms, meaning not wearing clothes that [were] fitted."
The award-winning actor responded to the allegations shortly after the news broke to the public. Freeman did not either deny or confirm the legitimacy of the allegations, but did apologize if he made anyone feel “uncomfortable.”
"Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would willingly offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy," Freeman said in a statement. "I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent."
