More Than 2 Dozen Injured, 5 in Serious Condition After Church Bus Crashes, Please Send Prayers

Tragedy struck during a church trip in L.A. over the weekend. Around 1 p.m. local time, a church bus carrying nearly 40 passengers crossed a freeway divider and struck another car.

PEOPLE confirmed the news with the Los Angeles fire authorities, who responded to the "extremely dangerous" wreck. The accident happened on the southbound 405 freeway. Both the front of the car and the front of the bus were several damaged.

Los Angeles Fire Department released a statement. They revealed that 25 people were transported to the hospital. Of those people, 5 of them are in serious condition.

“Over 40 total patients were evaluated by firefighters with 25 being transported,” the statement continued. “Five adults, ranging in age from 30 – 88 years old transported in serious condition.”

There were 37 passengers on the private charter bus that afternoon, KCBS reported. The passengers were coming from a church event in Inglewood and returning to their church in Pacoima, KCBS also reported.

The driver of the bus was a 40-year-old woman. She was listed in critical condition after the crash, according to KCBS. There were children on the bus, but they are to listed among the serious injuries.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash. After the traumatic crash, authorities closed the freeway.

“Freeway incidents are just plain dangerous,” fire officials wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday. “We’re grateful for our [partners] in safety.”
