Mississippi Sheriff Announces Officers Involved in Deadly Shootout

It is being reported that a Mississippi sheriff was involved in a deadly shootout on Monday morning. The suspect in the violent crime was killed during the shootout with narcotics officers, according to Fox News.

Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson claimed that suspect Ernie Lizana Jr. began firing shots at the officers early Monday morning. He did so after the officers arrived at a vacant home in Gulfport where the suspect was hiding. According to Peterson, the officers returned fire and eventually shot Lizana several times, killing him at the scene.

According to the New York Times, the suspect was, according to Fox News, already wanted on charges of aggravated assault after a local woman was found shot in the throat on Saturday. The woman's name hasn't been released to the media, but it is known that she is currently in the hospital in New Orleans in serious condition. 

There is currently an investigation into Lizana's death.
