Maleah Davis' stepfather is now a suspect in her disappearance. An AMBER alert was issued for the 4-year-old Houston girl.
He father climbed that she was abducted by three men, but his account did not add up. The police spokesman says he's a person of interest after his story "changed multiple times."
Even more concerning are reports that Maleah was removed from her family home due to allegations of abuse. Malea 4 and her two brothers were placed with a relative last year, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services told CNN.
The story of how her stepfather claims she disappeared is a complicated one to follow. Her stepdad says that he, her younger brother, and Maleah were abducted by three men, reported CNN. Her stepfather says that he and his son were released safely, but they kept Maleah. The trio of men is allegedly still on the run with the 4-year-old.
Texas authorities are frantically trying to find Maleah. The young girl was recently ill, and she has had multiple brain surgeries in her short life. She is in need of medical help.
In his original story, Maleah's stepdad, Darion Vence, told detectives that he, Maleah, and his son were on their way to the airport Friday night to pick up Maleah's mother. He says that he heard a popping noise like he'd popped a tire, and he got out to check,
He claims that when he checked, a blue pickup pulled up behind the car and two Hispanic males got out. They approached the car.
The three were allegedly placed in the back of the truck. Vence says he was in and out of consciousness until 6 p.m. on Saturday when he took up on Highway 6 with his 1-year-old son.
Maleah was not there. Vence said he walked to a nearby hospital where he received treatment and reported her missing. He also noted that Maleah is in need of medical care after a recent brain surgery.
"She's needed a lot of care," the police sergeant said. "This week she was sick too."
An Amber Alert describes the car that took Maleah as a blue, crew-cab Chevy pickup truck, possibly a 2010 year model. The car Vence was driving—a silver Nissan Altima belonging to Maleah's mother—is also missing, police said.
A traffic camera captured an image of the Altima driving through an intersection in the Houston suburb of Sugar Land just before 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
Maleah is about 3 feet tall and weighs 30 to 40 pounds. She was last seen wearing a light blue Under Armour jacket, blue jeans, and gray Under Armour tennis shoes with pink and white details.
Houston police ask anyone with information about the case to call 713-308-3600. Please storm heaven with prayers that this precious girl is found safe and sound.
