The most recent season of “America’s Got Talent” was filled with a number of memorable acts including worship pastor Michael Ketterer, who often delivered emotional singing performances. Although close-up card magician Shin Lim took home the winning title and $1-million prize, Ketterer — a top-five finalist — was an ultimate fan-favorite throughout season 13, especially among AGT’s Christian fan base.
At the finale show, Ketterer performed a song written for him by country star Garth Brooks. The unique performance came after judge Simon Cowell publicly requested Brooks write a song for Ketterer.
Brooks even took things a step further when he asked Ketterer to perform at one of his upcoming concerts. Ketterer happily agreed and was set to take the stage later in October.
However, just days after the finale, America was shocked to learn that Ketterer was arrested for domestic violence on Thursday, September 20th. As previously reported, the Influence Church pastor was taken into custody after the LAPD showed up at his hotel room. Upon arrival, cops noticed a “visible red mark” on his wife.
Ketterer told TMZ that the situation was a “misunderstanding.” He allegedly admitted that he and his wife got into an altercation, which led to the police being called, but he did not lay his hands on her. Ketterer’s wife did not want to press charges, but the LAPD refused to let him go.
Following the arrest, more unfortunate news regarding the AGT finalist was revealed. According to PEOPLE, Ketterer will no longer be performing at Garth Brooks’ concert on October 20th at Notre Dame Stadium. After the arrest, both parties came to the conclusion that “it was better” for Ketterer to withdraw.
“Called him this weekend, we talked. We decided it was better that he not appear at Notre Dame and not perform there,” Brooks said in a statement. “That family will figure it out and find it within themselves, and of course the good Lord, and figure it out. Michael Ketterer will not be at Notre Dame.”
Many details regarding Ketterer’s arrest are still unclear. This story is developing and will be updated if more information is released. Please keep Ketterer’s family in your prayers at this time.
