On Monday, June 18th, the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles, California. The event was filled with a number of memorable moments as America’s favorite stars took home their awards that evening.

The hit movie “Black Panther” and popular Netflix series “Stranger Things” led the event with seven nominations. Ultimately, “Black Panther” took home the most winning titles with four awards: Best Movie, Best Performance in a Movie (Chadwick Boseman), Best Hero (Chadwick Boseman), and Best Villain (Michael B. Jordan).

Other than the “Black Panther” cast accepting their awards, the movie made headlines for another reason during the ceremony. Actor Michael B. Jordan, who plays villain Erik Killmonger in the film, made a controversial statement during his acceptance speech.

“I’m shocked that I won this award for Best Villain,” Jordan said as he took his stand at the podium. “I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag.”

His remark comes shortly after the controversy involving Roseanne Barr’s “racist” tweet about Valerie Jarrett. The insensitive tweet led to the cancellation of the “Roseanne” reboot despite the comedy show’s successful comeback.

Twitter went wild over Jordan’s comment against Barr — some fans thought Jordan’s joke was hilarious while others came to Barr’s defense. See a few of the Twitter posts below:
