Meghan Markle has skyrocketed into worldwide fame after becoming engaged to Prince Harry recently. The actress, who is biracial, is preparing for the wedding and has been spending a lot of time with the Royal Family. Now, an incident occurred at a recent event that's gaining a lot of attention.
A member of the royal family is now under fire for what is being called a racist action. Princess Michael, the Queen's cousin, made headlines for an item she wore to the recent Christmas lunch.
As seen in photographs, Princess Michael wore a brooch that is considered "blackamoor" jewelry. It depicts a black man in a gold headdress and is said to "fetishize racial conquest."
"The brooch is not Princess Michael's first brush with racial controversy. In 2004, she denied telling a group of black New Yorkers to 'go back to the colonies' because she felt they were being rowdy in a restaurant," according to reports.
TMZ has since reported that Princess Michael is "very sorry and distressed" about the incident and apparently didn't mean anything by it. Sources told TMZ she plans to not wear it ever again.
Critics were quick to point out the blunder on social media. Many of them had little sympathy for the Princess and her action.
