Melania Trump Turns 48, Here Are Her Most Amazing Moments As First Lady

April 26, 2018Apr 26, 2018

Uprooted from her life in New York City, Melania Trump has moved into the nation's capital to serve as First Lady of the United States. Since arriving in Washington D.C., Melania has impressed America with her style choices and incredible leadership as the first lady.

Melania Trump turned 48 years old today. In an interview this morning with President Trump, it was revealed that in a heartwarming gesture, Trump provided Melania with a card and flowers — the same gift that former President Barack Obama gave his wife earlier this year for her 54th birthday, according to People Magazine

In honor of Melania Trump's birthday, here are the five most amazing moments of her time as the first lady.

Reading to Children

Throughout her time as the first lady, Melania has visited several hospitals to read to children. On November 2, 2017, for instance, Melania visited the pediatric wing of a New York hospital to read a Dr. Seuss book. She did this not only to provide fun entertainment for the children but also in order to celebrate the National Read Across America Day.

Another example of Melania Trump reading to children came during the Easter Egg Roll this year when the first lady read to children while dressed in the baby blue outfit seen above. Sarah Huckabee Sanders was also scheduled to read to children on that same week.

Christmas Decorations

Every year, the first lady is responsible for overseeing everything related to Christmas at the White House. This generally includes picking out a theme, finding a Christmas tree, and hosting events for children filled with arts and crafts. This important job as the first lady is something that Melania has done extraordinarily well.

The decorations were so incredible that 25,000 visitors came to enjoy them while taking part in public tours. The White House had receptions in December as well as more than 100 open houses. The decorations were called a "winter wonderland" inside of the White House.

This Week's State Dinner

The White House released a statement on Monday saying that the first lady carefully selected all elements of the dinner to "complement and pay homage to the long-standing friendship between the United States and France." One reports claims that the dinner represented a big moment for both fashion and for the former model, who has kept a low profile since becoming the first lady fifteen months ago.

Melania stressed her personal involvement in picking the menu and gold-trimmed table settings for the event. CNN reports that the dinner was a way of showing the country that it was "her house, her dinner, and her terms." There was a total of 123 attendees, making the event smaller than President Barack Obama's dinners.

After the dinner, President Trump announced what a spectacular job Melania Trump did in planning the dinner.

"@FLOTUS did a spectacular job hosting the President of France @EmmanuelMacron and his wife Brigitte," he said. "Every detail was done to perfection. The State Dining Room never looked more beautiful, and Washington is abuzz over what an incredible job Melania did."

Melania's Trip to Poland

Melania Trump visiting Poland was her second overseas trip as the first lady. This particular trip earned her ample headlines about a striking dress that she wore. The dress featured a colorful print of red, blue, and pink below the navy top.

During this visit, Melania spent one-on-one time with her fellow first lady, Kornhauser-Dude, and also went to the Copernicus Science Center. While visiting the science center she spoke and played with the children who were visiting. She also spent time with the spouses of several world leaders, most of whom are women, and despite language barriers was able to form incredible friendships with many of them.

During this trip, Melania gave her own speech, in which she called for peace around the world.
