The media began speculating about Melania Trump after it was reported that she hadn't appeared in public for a total of 20 days, according to CNN.
On May 10, Melania Trump joined her husband in welcoming home three American hostages from North Korea. She greeted the former prisoners at Joint Base Andrews, and as a result, she was showered with praise from the media, but this would be her last public appearance in more than two weeks.
CNN writes that four days later, the first lady was checked into Walt Reed National Military Medical Center for what her spokesperson Stephanie Grisham called "an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition." After the surgery, a statement was released that the first lady's procedure was "successful" with "no complication."
But 16 days later — 20 days after she was last seen in public — Melania Trump still remains to be seen. On top of that, most people have not heard from Trump, except via Twitter, with only one brief address about her medical procedure.
"A sincere thank you to Walter Reed Medical Unit @WRBethesda & to all who have send good wishes & prayers! I am feeling great & look forward to getting back home @WhiteHouse soon.
As the media began to speculate about why she might not be appearing in public, Melania Trump finally addressed the issue. She claimed that the media should stop speculating about where she is and how she's doing. She's doing fine, she says.
"I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing. Rest assured, I'm here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!" she tweeted.
In the aftermath of her week-long hospital stay, Trump has also tweeted about the school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. She's also remarked on the Navy SEAL who was awarded the Medal of Honor at the White House ceremony. Most recently, she made a tweet supporting the military in honor of Memorial Day.
Thus, despite not making public appearances, Melania Trump clearly doesn't wish to slip away from the public eye. She is still, although not making public appearances, still making public comments.
CNN points out that Melania's 20-day break, although long, does make sense, especially given Melania Trump's extensive history of independence from her husband and desire to retain privacy.
In recent news, at least one person has passed away after a plane went down inside of a neighborhood.
